ABOUT THE SHOW

Welcome to HADESTOWN: Teen Edition, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed musical, co-created by Vermont's own Anaïs Mitchell and Ben T. Matchstick, is brought to life by the students of Montpelier High School and U-32 High School in a unique school collaboration.

Hadestown began as a grassroots, DIY production right here in Vermont, workshopped at Montpelier High School with local artists and musicians. From its humble beginnings, the show has grown into a global phenomenon, but its heart remains rooted in the creativity and resilience of Vermont’s artistic community.

In this historic production, we celebrate the legacy of Vermont creators by bringing Hadestown back to its origins. We are honored to have consulted with Anaïs Mitchell and Ben T. Matchstick to adapt this version of Hadestown Teen Edition, making this a true homecoming for the story and its creators.

Intertwining the mythic tales of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and the Gods Hades and Persephone, this vibrant production invites you on an unforgettable journey to the underworld and back. Performed by an exceptional ensemble of actors, singers, and dancers, and supported by phenomenal technical theater students, HADESTOWN: Teen Edition asks us all to imagine how the world could be — filled with hope, resilience, and community.

Get ready to be transported in this one-of-a-kind celebration of Vermont’s artistic spirit.
