Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant but unstable father, Robert. In the wake of his death she must negotiate her grief with several important relationships; first with her estranged sister who has returned for the funeral, also the former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the notebooks he left behind, finally with the memory of her father himself who haunts her with the possibility that she may have inherited his genius as well as his mental disorder. They are all pieces of the puzzle in the search for the truth behind a mysterious mathematical proof. This poignant drama about love and reconciliation unfolds on the back porch of a house on a university campus. Proof won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama as well as the Tony Award for Best Play.
