ABOUT THE SHOW
A two-act masterwork, this heralded piece features Warren’s own Pamela Rickard in Beckett’s greatest female role. Absurdist theater with a dash of dark humor.
“Oh…this is going to be a happy day! Another happy day!” So announces Winnie as she begins yet another day in Samuel Beckett’s absurdly profound and darkly comic masterpiece, HAPPY DAYS. In this short two-act meditation on human resiliency in the face of insurmountable odds, the central character of Winnie is literally and figuratively stuck in her life and world.
Through her near monologue and the mysterious appearance of her husband Willie, Beckett reveals the innate human need to find joy and meaning in a fractured world. Beckett’s words echo to today and more than ever, we need Winnie’s will to survive against all odds in his most accessible play.
Featuring returning San Francisco-based artists Pamela Rickard (Warren native!) as the indomitable Winnie and Lol Levy as Willie, collaborating with LA/NY-based director David Grove, HAPPY DAYS answers the question that when “even words fail…what is one to do then, until they come again?”
