ABOUT THE SHOW
Vermont Pride Theater at Chandler will present a benefit online reading of David Valdes’ timely play Raggedy And on Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 pm, followed by a live talkback. The play will also be available on demand during the following week.
In Raggedy And, a president-elect invites an unknown poet to read at her inauguration. Surprisingly, this throws the poet’s family into a clash of both convictions and wit when the “four LGBTQ characters tango over minority labels, gender politics, and the limits of privacy” (New Plays Exchange).
The online nature of the production has enabled director Joanne Greenberg (Montpelier) to cast talented actors who live far apart: Pedro González (New York and Puerto Rico), Andra Kisler (Northfield), Jennifer Lord (Danville), and Peter Ruiz (Bloomington, IN). These four plus Greenberg and Valdes will participate in the live talkback after the February 6 pre-recorded performance on Zoom.
The proceeds of this tenth annual VPT winter benefit will go to GLAD’s Transgender-Rights Project, which works to advance equality for transgender youth and adults throughout the Northeast.
Tickets are $12, available online at www.chandler-arts.org or at the box office (802) 728-6464.
Sponsors of this production are the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont, the Samara Fund of the Vermont Community Foundation, and the Vermont Conference United Church of Christ.
