ABOUT THE COMPANY

THEATER IN MANY FORMS- FOR MANY SPACES

Vermont Public Theater believes that a theater should serve as a kind of “round table” for community, inviting audiences from varied and diverse walks of life, cultures, ages, gender identifications and economic backgrounds to participate, engage and inspire new and exuberant theatrical work and storytelling that lifts up our shared humanity.

As a growing collective of theater artists and community members from the region and beyond, we are inspired by the idea that theater can exist in many different forms and in many different spaces, some traditional and some innovative in nature. We are not interested in becoming a bricks and mortar organization, but instead hope to be creatively itinerant; a moveable feast if you will- collective and collaborative in nature. We can imagine performances that are developed in collaboration with top professional theaters and arts partners in the region, but just as easily can envision the work we develop presented in libraries, pubs, coffee bars, homeless shelters, hospitals, and outdoor venues. We believe art should be participatory and are interested in interrogating and challenging the idea of audience as a passive group of viewers or listeners. We welcome participation and public discourse, and hope our work will inspire both.

Last but not least, we believe that the art we create should be free and offered at no charge- period: CSA- Community Supported Art.
